Denize Galiao is a brazilian documentary filmmaker and editor based in Brazil and Germany. Born in 1980 in Porto Alegre, she emigrated in 1998 to Germany to learn the German language. In 1999 she was admited for the preparatory college at the University of Potsdam in Germany. After completing her studies she studied Africa Studies at the Humboldt University Berlin. From 2000 to 2002 she made several interships by different tv an film companies. In 2002 she was one of the nine trainees selected among 200 candidates for a two and half years aprenticisships to become an editor by the NDR- Northern German Broadcasting in Hamburg. Since 2005 she has been working as an editor for several TV shows, documentaries and short films. Denize also studied documentary filmmaking in one of the most important filmschools in Europe, the HFF Munich. Her films have been screened and awarded at several international film festivals around the world. Her most recent work, her graduation film "Saudade" won in 2019 the award for the best student documentary at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and for the best student cinematographer for Dino Osmanovic at the bosnian cinematografie award.
